Meet the DU Just Wages Contributors: Sarah Johnson

Sarah Johnson is a 2016 graduate in International and Intercultural Communication, a joint program between Korbel and the Media, Film, and Journalism Studies school. In such a highly individualized program she was able to truly follow her heart and design a graduate experience based on her own interests and goals, which for Sarah was Latin American Studies.

What initially drew Sarah to Professor Galemba’s Qualitative Research Methods class and the Wage Theft project was its focus on the Latino immigrant community in Denver. She was also drawn to its integration of research methodology and fieldwork, connecting academic research and social justice. For Sarah, this continues to be an important issue: the bridge between academia and activism, especially in today’s political climate, in which immigrants and refugees are more vulnerable than ever.
