Kara Napolitano is a recent alumni of DU and previously worked on the Just Wages project as a researcher. She currently works with Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking in Denver. When Kara joined the Just Wages team she was on staff at the Human Trafficking Center.
“This project helped me to understand that human trafficking is on the extreme end of a continuum of labor exploitation (including wage theft) that affects vulnerable people and that no movement can succeed if they are confined to their own silos. The strengths of campaigns aimed at promoting workers’ rights must be rooted in the leadership of workers and survivors of all forms of abuse along this continuum and in the collaboration of parallel movements. Viewing the problem as a local one also helped me to understand my role in the problem (as a consumer) and in the possible solutions. I continue to be inspired by the good work being done by the Just Wages Project team.”
